Sarah Lawrence lives between worlds.

She sees the unseen; experiences the strangeness and beauty of a parallel universe with her daughter, Hannah. At the water’s edge Sarah will reveal her own hallucinatory longings. Her secret.

Murwillumbah playwright, Michael Lill’s brilliant new play, The Water’s Edge, is a poignant exploration of self-delusion, of societal lies and of human resilience. A cautionary tale of the fragility of human connections and perceptions.

Brittle and elegant, The Water’s Edge, is a multi-layered story that compels us to enter the turbulent sea that is Sarah Lawrence’s mind. The play challenges the illusion that reality coincides at every point with its appearance. In Lill’s flowing text it is the space beneath and between the lines that lifts the play from being powerful family drama to an epic tale of love and loss. The Water’s Edge is a thrilling theatrical achievement that condenses a family’s life from 1970-2005, into deep time.

Dream Run’s premiere production of The Water’s Edge is directed by the writer, Michael Lill. The production ensemble, Cate Feldmann, Gregory Aitken, Sierra Freeman, and Yasir Assam, includes Maureen Lill as The Singer. Sunita Bailey, (When The Rain Stops Falling, The Chronicles of Eldershaw) is the Lighting Designer.
