Byron Bay International Film Festival

Song of Breath - A Film by Simona Canonica - plus Didge Ceremony to begin and Sound Healing to finish

Saturday 17 Oct, 2026

The Drill Hall Theatre is delighted to host a special screening as part of the Byron International Film Festival. Join us for an evening of independent cinema, shared stories and connection in the heart of Mullumbimby.

An immersive journey through three distant cultures in search of the origin of the breath of life. A spatial and spiritual exploration that moves through singing, sound, and voice, leading to the deepest connection with oneself. A path that evolves on the wave of sounds and the bodies that generate them, unveiling the essence of humanity.

FEATURES CEREMONY FROM GLENN BARRY - Glenn Barry is a Gamilaraay man who utilises the sound vibrations of the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) to bring gii/dhuwi (heart and soul) into the world of feeling.

LEARN MORE ABOUT SONG OF BREATH

Following the screening of Song of Breath, sound healer and artist Valentina Di Blase will guide the audience through a 30-minute participatory sound experience exploring breath, voice and vibration.
Beginning with conscious breathing and gentle humming, individual voices will gradually come together to create a collective drone, transforming the audience itself into part of the soundscape. Valentina will then weave the resonance of monochord and crystal bowls around the voices, moving from creating sound together into deep listening.
A journey from breath to voice, from individual vibration to collective sound, and finally into stillness.
