Iron Winter Film Screening

A screening of an award-winning film followed by a live Zoom Q+A with the director Kasimir Burgess and Darius Devas

7:00pm Friday 17th April 2026.

IRON WINTER is a powerful 90-minute documentary from Australian director Kasimir Burgess, offering a rare insight into the rituals and traditions of horse herders in Mongolia’s remote Tsakhir Valley.

Set in one of the harshest inhabited environments on earth, the film follows two young herders entrusted with reviving an ancient winter tradition — a brutal coming-of-age journey to protect a vast herd of horses through 150 days of extreme cold. As environmental pressures and modern life threaten this way of living, the stakes are not just survival, but the preservation of culture itself.

Battling blizzards, isolation and Mongolia’s deadliest winter on record, the boys’ journey becomes a test of endurance, friendship and faith. Visually striking and deeply moving, IRON WINTER captures both the fragility and resilience of a tradition at risk of being lost.

Following the screening at the Drill Hall Theatre, join us for a live Q&A with director Kasimir Burgess, interviewed by local filmmaker Darius Devas.
