Tiny Beautiful Things

Bangalow Theatre Company

A play by Nia Vardalos based on the novel Tiny Beautiful Things, written by Cheryl Strayed, and directed by Anouska Gammon

Friday 4 April 2025 - Saturday 12 April

Tiny Beautiful Things is cathartic, heartfelt and human. The play was adapted for stage by Nia Vardalos, (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) who fell in love with the novel Tiny Beautiful Things, written by Cheryl Strayed. Vardalos was already a huge fan of Strayed's memoir Wild (the film version starring Reese Witherspoon) and worked with Director Thomas Kail (Hamilton) to bring the play version to life. The story centres around the character Sugar, an anonymous online advice columnist (Cheryl Strayed) who offers her advice to real life strangers that are seeking help with real life problems. Sugar listens, relates and responds with truth, openness and compassion. She doesn't sugarcoat things, but offers her own life experiences as her understandings, to offer her truth but not to shock, rather to heal and to comfort. Cheryl Strayed’s writing is so raw and honest, it cuts through the noise and feels like a warm embrace with a good friend who isn't afraid to say it as it is, and who reminds us of all the Tiny Beautiful Things.

Directed by Anouska Gammon (Artistic Director of Bangalow Theatre Company), lighting design by Richard Morrod and proudly produced at The Drill Hall Theatre, Mullumbimby, Tiny Beautiful Things is the theatre experience not to be missed and much needed by all.
